Past Winner Spotlight: Peter Dimkovski’s 1971 Ford Falcon XY GT
Peter Dimkovski from Victoria is now the proud owner of this incredible 1971 Ford Falcon XY GT Tribute, valued at $135,000. Finished in that unmistakable Vermillion Fire, this XY is a stunning example of classic Aussie muscle, dialled into perfection.
Under the bonnet, the heart of this beast is a 351 Cleveland block, prepped and machined by Flowcraft with a virgin bore, grout filled to the Welsh plugs, and oil pressure and return modifications for strength and reliability. It’s fitted with an Eagle steel crank, 408 stroke, ARP main stud bolts, Eagle H beam rods with ARP bolts, and Arias forged pistons with race coated skirts, running at 11.5:1 compression.
Breathing is handled by 4V closed chamber cast iron heads, tongued and CNC ported by Flowcraft, secured with ARP head studs, dual valve springs, Crane roller rockers, stud girdles, and a custom grind Flowcraft solid roller camshaft. The valve train is kept in line with Crane tie bar lifters and a Roll Master double row timing chain. Oil delivery is managed by a STD modified oil pump with a custom pick up and an ASR sump.
Up top, it’s got a TFC match ported manifold with ARP bolts and a Quick Fuel 950 double pumper carburettor, calibrated by James at MCE. An Aeromotive fuel pump and Speed Flow filter keep it well-fed, while the entire engine has been washed, prepped, assembled, dynoed and tuned by MCE, with MSD ignition to keep the spark alive.
Backing it all up is a bulletproof 3 speed C10 transmission built by Trev at Transco, rated to 800 horsepower, with a hardened input shaft, billet servos, stage 2 valve body and internals to suit. A 9 1/2 inch 5200rpm TCE converter and a TCI shifter put the power to the ground.
At the rear, a tough 9 inch diff with 4.3 gears, a full spool, and billet 31 spline axles ensures nothing gets left behind.
Suspension is dialled in with V8 lowered springs and Calvert 90/10 shocks up front, while the rear features reset factory leafs, 2 inch lowering blocks, Calvert Caltracs and Calvert 9-way adjustable shocks.
It rolls on Mickey Thompson tyres, 17×4.5 inch Weld Alumastar fronts and 255/60 Hero rears on 15×8 Weld RT wheels with single beadlocks, giving it the perfect tough stance.
