Past Winner Spotlight: Jacqui Beaton’s 1986 Holden VL Berlina Turbo
Jacqui Beaton from Victoria has taken out one of the toughest builds we’ve seen yet, a 1986 Holden VL Berlina Turbo that’s been built to turn heads and dominate the streets.
The built motor has only done 6000 kilometres since the build, and it’s all business. It’s equipped with an upgraded intake manifold, PRP trigger kit, and R35 GTR coil pack kit to keep the spark strong. Boost is delivered by a G42 Garrett turbo mounted on a 6 Boost manifold, with a 50mm Turbosmart external gate to keep things in check. Cooling is handled by a Fenix radiator.
Backing up the power is a tough 2-speed Powerglide with a transbrake and trans cooler, sending power to a bulletproof 9 inch diff with four link suspension. Handling and safety are sorted with a full roll cage and Wilwood brakes all round, including a Wilwood master cylinder.
It’s got that unmistakable tough street look with custom 3.5 inch exhaust dumped at the diff, and a TCL shifter paired with an AIM MXL2 screen to keep an eye on everything. Inside, there’s Recaro seats and a Momo steering wheel, making it the perfect blend of race and comfort.
The engine bay is shaved with hidden wiring, adding to the clean, show stopping look. It rolls on tough 22 inch Simmons wheels, 22×8 fronts and 22×12 rears with 305/25/22 tyres, but Jacqui also had the option of switching to the iconic Weld Racing wheels.
Handling is dialled in with coilovers up front, while a full fuel system with a fuel cell in the boot keeps it fed under load.
