Past Winner Spotlight: Adrian Harper’s 1966 Ford XR Falcon
Adrian Harper from Queensland is now the proud owner of this absolutely stunning 1966 Ford XR Falcon, valued at $150,000. Finished in a sleek Glasurit Silver, this Falcon is a perfect blend of old-school style and serious modern performance.
Under the bonnet sits a monster Dart 428 cubic inch Windsor engine, fed by twin Quick Fuel Brawler 750 carburettors and topped with a TBS 6/71 supercharger. It’s got the hardware to make serious power, with AFR 220cc heads, Yella Terra lifters, Isky valve springs, a Howards camshaft, JE pistons, and a Scat crank and rods.
Keeping it all together is a Melling oil pump, while fuel delivery is handled by a Bain Racing cell and Aeromotive pump. Cooling comes courtesy of a Race Radiators setup with twin thermo fans and a CVR electric water pump, ensuring it keeps its cool even when it’s working hard.
Exhaust is handled by 1 7/8 inch extractors and a 3 inch system, giving this XR Falcon a deep, tough note. Ignition is sorted by an MSD system, ensuring a perfect spark every time.
The transmission is a tough Protrans-built C4 with a TCE 3800rpm converter, sending the power down the line to a 9 inch diff with a Detroit Locker and 33 spline Strange axles, built to handle the torque.
The suspension and brakes have been set up to keep this Falcon pointing straight and true, with King Springs and Koni shocks up front, and leaf springs with Koni shocks out back. Braking is classic and reliable, with stock brakes front and rear and a Wilwood master cylinder providing the stopping power.
It all sits on a killer set of Simmons FR wheels, 20×8 inches up front with 245/30R20 rubber, and 20×9.5 inches at the rear with 265/30R20 tyres for that perfect stance.
