Past Winner Spotlight: Geoff Pacey’s Genuine 1968 HK GTS Monaro
Geoff Pacey from Queensland has taken home a true piece of Australian muscle car history, a genuine 1968 Holden HK GTS Monaro. Not a replica, not a tribute, this is the real deal, and it’s been built to be as tough as it is iconic.
Finished in stunning Monza Blue, this genuine GTS coupe has been transformed into a true street and strip weapon. Under the bonnet is a 468ci big block Chev making a whopping 700 horsepower, built by the legendary George Haddad at Haddad Race Cars and Engines.
The engine features Brodix alloy heads, Scat forged internals, an Edelbrock manifold, a custom oil pan, a Proform carburettor, and Plazmaman billet rocker covers, making it every bit as tough as it sounds.
Power is sent through a transbraked Powerglide with a high stall converter and TCI auto pan, using the original shifter and built by Race Glides. Out back, it’s got a 9 inch rear end with 35 spline axles, a custom centre shortened to suit, and tough 5/8 inch wheel studs.
This Monaro is fully engineered in Victoria for the 468ci BBC, Powerglide transmission and 9 inch differential, making it as street legal as it is fast. It’s run a best of 10.90 seconds down the quarter mile, a true 10 second street car.
It rides on Weld wheels, 17×4.5 inch fronts with full throttle style, and 15×8 inch V series rears with a 3 inch backspace and single beadlock, wrapped in PSR 255/60/15 tyres for maximum traction. The tough look is completed by a 4 inch reverse cowl bonnet scoop.
Inside, it’s all class with the original black interior, and underneath it sings through a custom twin system exhaust.
