Past Winner Spotlight: Matt Petersen’s VH SLE
Matt Petersen from Queensland is the proud owner of a stunning 1983 Holden VH SLE, valued at $115,000!
This rare factory two tone VH SLE is a serious street and show car, combining classic Holden muscle with a ground up performance build. The Commodore has undergone a full bare metal body restoration and repaint, earning its place as a Summernats Top 60 show car.
Under the bonnet sits a 408ci LS stroker V8, built around a cast block with a 13.1:1 compression ratio. The combination features a K1 Technologies crankshaft and connecting rods, forged pistons, highly modified cylinder heads, a big roller camshaft and a two piece intake manifold. Feeding the beast is a 950cfm E85 carburettor, backed by a Haltech engine management system and high capacity fuel system.
Exhaust gases are handled by a twin 3.5 inch stainless steel system, giving the VH an aggressive soundtrack to match its serious power.
Backing up the LS stroker is a race built Powerglide transmission rated to 1500 horsepower, complete with a transbrake and a 5500rpm high stall converter. Power is sent to a sheet fabricated Ford 9-inch diff featuring a Mark Williams centre and massive 40 spline Mark Williams axles.
The chassis has been transformed to handle the power, with a mini tubbed rear end, four link rear suspension and coilover suspension. Wilwood brakes bring the beast back under control when it’s time to slow down.
Inside, the VH combines its classic Holden character with modern technology, featuring an Haltech IC-7 digital dash to keep Matt informed while he’s behind the wheel.
The aggressive stance is finished off with 15 x 10 double beadlock wheels at the rear and 17 x 4.5 Weld Magnum wheels up front, giving the VH a serious drag inspired look.
