Past Past Winner Spotlight: Bryce Gobby’s HQ GTS
Bryce Gobby from WA, is the proud owner of a 1971 HQ GTS, valued at $150,000!
Finished in sleek Mercedes Silver with contrasting black GTS stripes, the HQ strikes an aggressive stance while staying true to the unmistakable lines of the original. Split rear tubs provide the room needed for the wider rear rubber, giving the car an unmistakable street machine presence without sacrificing its classic appeal.
Under the bonnet sits a Blueprint Engines 454ci Pro Series V8, producing an impressive 580 horsepower. Featuring aluminium cylinder heads, forged internals, a roller camshaft, and a 10:1 compression ratio, the small block delivers serious performance. A Holley Terminator Stealth EFI system, controlled by a Holley ECU with dedicated wiring integration, ensures modern reliability and crisp throttle response, while a PWR aluminium radiator and Spal thermo fan keep everything running cool.
Backing the 454 is a full manual Powerglide transmission paired with a 4200rpm stall converter and heavy duty tailshaft, sending power to a shortened 9 inch rear end fitted with 35 spline axles, a Truetrac centre, and 3.89:1 gears. The combination delivers the perfect balance of street manners and hard hitting performance.
Inside, the cabin has been completely refreshed with a new black GTS interior featuring classic houndstooth seat inserts that pay homage to the HQ’s heritage. Modern touches, including a B&M Stealth shifter and a Holley 6.86’ Pro Dash, seamlessly blend contemporary technology with classic styling.
Rolling on Weld V Series wheels with 17 inch fronts and meaty 15×10 rears wrapped in 275/60R15 tyres, Bryce’s HQ has the stance to match its performance. Disc brakes front and rear round out the package, ensuring the car pulls up as confidently as it accelerates.
A huge congratulations to Bryce Gobby, a past winner now cruising in a true Aussie muscle icon!
