PAST WINNER SPOTLIGHT – Joe Hamad’s LS3 Powered VN
Joe Hamad, a Tuff Streeters member from New South Wales, took home a true street weapon, a Absinth Yellow LS3 VN valued at $70,000!
Powering the VN is a meticulously built LS3 engine that’s as refined as it is ferocious. It runs a performance cam, DRP heads with titanium valves, PSI springs, and Jesel rockers, all backed by ARP head studs, a Mellings oil pump, and a Powerbond balancer. Air and fuel delivery are handled by a Higgins inlet manifold, Accufab 4500 throttle body, and 850cc Deka injectors, all managed through a Holley Terminator X ECU and digital dash neatly mounted in a Mako Motorsports flush surround.
Supporting all that grunt is a purpose built fuel system, featuring an 83L drop tank, Walbro 255 in tank pump, Walbro 525 inside a surge tank, Speedflow fittings throughout, and a Turbosmart regulator keeping flow perfectly balanced. Power gets to the pavement through a built GM T400 transmission with a manualised valve body, FTC 4500 converter, and a two piece tailshaft, feeding into a shortened BorgWarner diff with a Harrop Truetrac and 3.9 gears.
Underneath, rebuilt VN V8 front calipers, and a Wilwood master cylinder deliver control to match the muscle. The car sits just right on Weld 15×3.5 front runners and 15×10 rears, wrapped in 275/60/15 radials, while the custom Castlemaine headers, 3 inch stainless system, and Magnaflow mufflers give the LS3 a sound that’s pure thunder.
