Past Winner Spotlight: Justin Ellis’s 1968 Holden HK GTS Monaro
Justin Ellis from Victoria is now the proud owner of this absolute showstopper — a 1968 Holden HK GTS Monaro, valued at $250,000. This build doesn’t just turn heads, it snaps necks and leaves jaws on the floor.
Finished in the iconic Silver Mink with striking red trim, this HK GTS Monaro is the perfect blend of classic style and modern engineering.
Under the bonnet is a blown Dart 350 small block Chev running on E85, producing a healthy 550 horsepower. It’s backed by a brand new 1000 horsepower-rated TH400 box with a 3500 stall built by Elite Automatics — ready to handle the power.
The rear end has been tubbed to the rails, housing 255/65/15 Mickey Thompson ET Streets mounted on RC COMP 15×9 single bead lock wheels, while RC COMP 17×3.5 front runners keep it pointed straight.
All that grunt is channelled through a custom Race Products 9 inch housing — clear coated to keep its raw finish — with 35 spline billet full floating axles and a Strange 35 spline Wavetrac centre with 3.7 gears.
Wilwood disc brakes front and rear provide stopping power to match the go, while a Gazard Bros anti-roll bar, mono leaf setup, and adjustable front and rear coilovers ensure the car stays planted.
The custom 1 piece billet tailshaft and 3.5 inch custom stainless exhaust with Gonzo spiral mufflers and air-controlled valves (to dump exhaust before the diff) give this Monaro an unmistakable bark.
Fuel is delivered via a custom 120 litre fuel cell under the parcel shelf, leaving the boot clear. Speedflow in-tank EFI pump and all Speedflow lines, filters, and fittings keep the fuel system bulletproof.
It’s got the best in transmission cooling with a B&M Hi-Tek trans cooler with fan and an RTS transmission overflow.
Underneath, the whole underbody was bare metal and wire brushed, then painted in black stone guard before assembly for a clean, tough finish.
The detail continues inside, with a brand new winner’s trim installed by Trim-FX on the Gold Coast, brand new chromed interior parts, and a modern sound system with a Bluetooth head unit, Kicker speakers, and a Kicker sub and amp in the boot — all hidden away for a sleek look.
The Aeroflow billet pistol grip shifter, Bliss custom billet bonnet hinges, and custom reverse cowl bonnet built by Alfa Motorsport are the cherry on top, making this one of the cleanest, toughest Monaros out there.
Congratulations to Justin Ellis — another past winner with a truly spectacular piece of Aussie muscle history!
